Morrissey ending 15-year boycott of Canada with tour that will start in BC

It’s been 15 years since Morrissey has performed in Canada, but that’s about to change.

The former frontman of the Smiths announced an eight-date Canadian tour today that will kick off at the Orpheum Theatre in Vancouver on Monday, April 15.

In 2006, Morrissey said he will not play any more concerts in Canada in protest of the country’s annual seal hunt.

He stayed true to his word, but in September 2018 the musician admitted that his “stance was ultimately of no use and helped no one” and announced he’d perform in Canada again.

Instead, he promised to donate to animal protection groups in the cities that he plays and invited those groups to set up booths and stalls at his shows.

Since he last played in Canada more than 15 years ago, Morrissey has released five studio albums with the most recent being “Low in High School,” which came out in 2017.

Tickets for his Canadian tour will go on sale at 10 a.m. on Friday.
