On April 3, BC Ferries announced that some sailings, including the major route between Vancouver (Horseshoe Bay) and Nanaimo (Departure Bay) would be cancelled for 60 days.
Those 60 days are nearly complete and the company confirmed that the Horseshoe Bay-Departure Bay route would resume service on Wednesday.
It will start with four round trips per day, supporting the movement of goods and people to coastal communities.

“In order to support coastal BC and respond to the needs of British Columbians, we are gradually and safely restoring our service,” said Mark Collins, BC Ferries’ president and CEO.
“Demand has increased such that resuming service on the Departure Bay-Horseshoe Bay route better serves the needs of customers.”
The daily schedule will see Horseshoe Bay departures at 8:30 am, 12:30 pm, 2:50 pm and 6:50 pm, while the boats will depart Departure Bay at 10:30 am, 12:50 pm, 2:30 pm and 4:50 pm.
Passenger health and safety remains a top priority for BC Ferries as it continues to follow directives and guidance from both the Government of BC and Transport Canada.
As a result, this route will operate at a 50% capacity when it resumes on Wednesday and BC Ferries highly suggests making an advance booking if you need to travel on the route.
Foot passengers should arrive well in advance of sailing times, as passenger capacity in that sense is very limited.
