It was a disastrous day for runners at the 44th Manitoba Marathon on Sunday.
According to organizers of the event, the run had to be cancelled midway through due to "excessive heat."
"A collective decision made in consultation with the Manitoba Marathon medical team and our executive director was made to ensure the safety of our volunteers and runners."
"All those participants who were not able to make their distance today, will be moved to the virtual platform. You can choose to run at your own pace."
Despite the cancellation, numerous runners were able to finish the 5 km, 10 km and half marathon races.
Environment Canada had the daytime high for the city at 37ºC. The humidity had it feeling more like 40 to 45ºC.
