Canadian woman who broke quarantine orders to work at long term care centre now facing charges

A Canadian woman is facing several charges after she began working at a long term care facility in Ottawa despite having orders to quarantine.

On October 2, the Ottawa Police Service received a complaint concerning a 53-year-old woman that had disobeyed the Quarantine Act.

The woman had travelled abroad and returned to Canada on September 26. As such, she was required under the Act to quarantine until October 9.

“The woman decided not to respect this order and went to work on September 30th, 2020 at a long-term health facility in Ottawa,” police said.

When management was made aware of the situation, she was immediately sent home and staff implemented cleaning protocols and informed everyone who had contact with her.

To date, none of residents of this long term care facility have tested positive for COVID-19 as a result.

The woman has been charged with failing to comply with entry conditions and causing risk of imminent death or serious bodily harm under the Quarantine Act.

She will have her first court appearance on November 24, 2020.
