Prime Minister Trudeau back on the ballot for 2019 election

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced on Sunday that he will run for a second term in the 2019 federal election.

The Liberal leader formally announced his nomination at a party event today in his Montreal riding of Papineau, which he has represented since 2008.

The riding has been a Liberal supporter for almost 50 years, with the exception of 2006 to 2008 when it was held by the Bloc Quebecois.

Trudeau's spoke to a boisterous partisan crowd of his reaffirmed belief in what he called "positive politics," while accusing Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer of exploiting fear and division.

He promised to channel his efforts into a number of issues including raising the standard of living for Indigenous Peoples, narrowing the gap between rich and poor and protecting Canada's oceans.
