1. Fordham University student falls to her death weeks before graduation

For Fordham University students, climbing the iconic clock tower on campus is known as a rite of passage on campus. Sydney Monfries, 22, was with a group of seniors who were climbing the tower on Sunday when Monfries fell to her death, the school confirmed. She was set to graduate this spring.


2. The Boston Marathon is off to a rainy start

Today is the 123rd running of the Boston Marathon and it’s underway in wet conditions. The oldest runner this year is 85-year-old Master Sergeant Lawrence Cole, while the youngest is 18-year-old Delaney Callaghan. It’s been six years since three people were killed when a pair of bombs were detonated near the race’s finish line.


3. Fire breaks out at Coachella campgrounds

There was plenty of fun to be had at Coachella this weekend, but festival-goers also had a scary experience on Friday night. After Childish Gambino’s set, a fire broke out in the shower block of one of the campgrounds. Luckily, the local fire department said there were no injuries to personnel or attendees.


4. Cellist Yo-Yo Ma plays along the Mexico-U.S. border

One of the most famous musicians in the world, Yo-Yo Ma, made a statement at the Mexico-U.S. border on Sunday. He played Bach on both the American and Mexican sides of the border to make a statement about building bridges, not walls, and celebrating different cultures instead of segregating them.


5. The Blue Jackets magical run continues against the Lightning

No one thought the Columbus Blue Jackets had a chance against the Tampa Bay Lightning, who won the President’s Trophy and had one of the most dominant regular seasons in NHL history. The NHL playoffs can be unpredictable though and the Blue Jackets now lead that first-round series 3-0 after a 3-1 win in game three on Sunday.
