1. PepsiCo to buy SodaStream in $3.2 billion deal
Another startup company is selling to a giant for a major amount. SodaStream is being bought by PepsiCo for a whooping $3.2 billion after the Israeli company just announced its most successful quarter ever. SodaStream will be run as an independent division of PepsiCo and its management team will stay intact.

2. Saturday was the most popular wedding day of the year
If you noticed a few more wedding photos popping up on your Instagram this weekend, you’re not crazy. Saturday, Aug. 18 was the most popular wedding day of the year, with nearly 30,000 tying the knot. In general, summer and early fall is the most popular time of year to get married but this Aug. 18 was a popular date because it’s a palindrome (8/18/18).

3. Korean athletes march under unified Korea flag at Asian Games
The Asian Games kicked off with the opening ceremony on Sunday and it was hard for people not to cheer for Korea’s entrance. North and South Korean athletes marched into the games as one team under a unified Korean flag. They two nations, who are technically still at war, will also be fielding joint teams in basketball, canoeing and rowing.

4. Woman rescued after falling off cruise ship and treading water for 10 hours
It’s hard to imagine the feeling of being stuck in the middle of the ocean after falling off a cruise ship, with no land in sight and your legs getting sore from trying to stay afloat. That’s what happened to a 46-year-old British woman, who managed to survive 10 hours at sea before being miraculously rescued by the Croatian Coast Guard.

5. Netflix is playing trailers for its original content in between episodes
Netflix users are not happy with the streaming giant’s latest idea to promote its original content. Some users are starting to see trailers for Netflix shows popping up and playing in between episodes of whatever show they’re watching. For now it’s only in testing and appearing for select users globally, but it could become a permanent thing for all users in the future.
