1. Concern in China as COVID-19 variant spreads

More than 300 cases of COVID-19 have been detected over a period of 10 days in China. It comes as the virus's Delta variant – first discovered in India – spreads in the country.

2. Zoom settles $86M class action suit

Video conferencing software firm Zoom has agreed to pay out US$86 million to settle a class action suit in the US. The suit claimed that Zoom had invaded the privacy of millions of users.

3. US actor dies while filming

Actor Jay Pickett has died while filming a production in Idaho. He was 60 years old.

4. Belarusian Olympian granted humanitarian visa by Poland

Belarus sprinter Krystina Timanovskaya has been granted a humanitarian visa by Poland after seeking refuge at the country's embassy in Tokyo. Belarus said she has been removed from the country's Olympic team because of her emotional state.

5. TikTok star dies after cinema shooting

A TikTok star has died after being shot at a cinema in California. Anthony Barajas, 19, was at a cinema in Corona with Rylee Goodrich, 18. Goodrich died at the scene.
