5 things you need to know this morning: Nov. 14, 2019

Start your day off right with five things you need to know this morning.

Five things you need to know

1. The Motorola Razr has returned

For many, the first ever cell phone they owned was the classic Motorola Razr. Now, it’s 2019 and the Razr is making its return in an impressive fashion. It has a display similar to what you’d expect with the typical smartphone of today, but it folds in half. It’s certainly not cheap, however, as it retails at $1,500 USD.

2. Cows swept out to sea by Hurricane Dorian found 4 months later

During Hurricane Dorian, a number of cows and other animals were swept away by an eight-foot ‘mini tsunami’. Virtually all hope of finding the animals was lost, but a trio of cows that had been swept away were located on Wednesday on an island in North Carolina. Officials say the cows may have swam for miles to escape the storm surge.

3. Mom misses her son's 1st NHL goal because she was getting a drink

On Wednesday, Dallas Stars forward Justin Dowling scored his first NHL goal. To make things even better, the Cochrane, Alta. native scored it in Calgary against the Flames, a short distance from where he grew up. He had family and friends in attendance to witness the memorable moment, but unfortunately his mom was in the concourse buying a drink when it happened.

4. Groundbreaking non-stop London to Sydney flight takes off

Just hours ago, a non-stop flight from London to Sydney took off for the first time. The Qantas plane is part of an experiment to see if non-stop direct commercial passenger flights between the two major cities are feasible. The hope is that the flight can be completed in 19 hours and 30 minutes.

5. Alicia Keys will host the 2020 Grammy Awards

The Recording Academy has announced that 15-time Grammy-winning songwriter, singer and producer Alicia Keys will host the 2020 Grammy Awards. Keys hosted 61st annual awards show in 2019 and will become the third woman, and first female musician, to host the show more than once.
