1. Irish women are sharing photos of their thongs; here’s why

There was outrage after an accused rapist was acquitted in Ireland last week. During the trial, the defence made reference to the 17-year-old victim’s “lace front” thong, saying “you have to look at the way she was dressed.” As a result, women across Ireland and beyond are sharing pictures of their thongs online as a form of protest.


2. San Francisco’s air quality is ‘very unhealthy’

British Columbians certainly have experience with this. Due to the wildfires in Northern California, the air quality in San Francisco has reached purple level, which is “very unhealthy.” There’s significant concern about public health and several universities and public schools have even cancelled classes.


3. Yelich and Betts win baseball’s MVP awards

The American League and National League MVPs were named on Thursday. In the AL, World Series champion Mookie Betts won the award and it wasn’t even close, as Betts got 28 of 30 first place votes. In the NL, it was a similar story with Christian Yelich of the Milwaukee Brewers earning 29 of 30 first place votes to win the award.


4. Amy Schumer cancels shows after hospitalization

Fans are sending support to comedian and actor Amy Schumer after she was admitted to the hospital. Schumer is suffering from hyperemesis gravidarum, a pregnancy complication that causes severe nausea, dehydration and more. Schumer had to cancel a number of shows due to the illness.


5. This painting smashed a record for a work by a living artists at an auction

You may have never seen it before, but there’s certainly a lot of hype around a work of art by British artist David Hockney. His painting ‘Portrait of an Artists (Pool with Two Figures) sold for an astonishing $90.3-million USD on Thursday night. It surpassed the previous record set by U.S. artist Jeff Koons’ ‘Balloon Dog.’
