BC premier claps back at American media outlet for Nanaimo Bar mishap

As a native of Vancouver Island and the premier of British Columbia, John Horgan simply had no choice but to defend his province’s most iconic dessert this week.

On Wednesday, BuzzFeed Canada, a division of the New York based media outlet, posted a recipe video for “Canadian Chocolate Bars” that left many Canucks scratching their heads.

Upon further investigation, the recipe detailed the delicious wafer, nut, custard, and chocolate ganache that combine to make the beloved Nanaimo Bar.

The mislabel was eventually corrected, however, not before premier Horgan got in on the joke with a classic "C'mon man."

BuzzFeed Canada did offer an official apology to all Canadians later on via a statement:

"Our friends in LA made this video and named it Canadian Chocolate Bars. I'm sorry to all the Canadians we've offended with this video. It was never our intention. - Sincerely, a real Canadian."

Anyone thinking the delicious dessert isn't that big of a deal can take it up with Canada Post, who honoured the Nanaimo Bar with an official stamp in 2019.
