The full closure of the Trans-Canada Highway (Hwy 1) east of Golden began on Monday.
It will be closed until late December for Phase 4 of the Kicking Horse Canyon Project, but there are a pair of weekends where the highway will be reopened to traffic.
One of them is this weekend, as Hwy 1 will reopen between Golden and Castle Junction at noon today before shutting back down at noon on Monday.
“Be aware that 30-minute stoppages will occur at times,” explained BC’s ministry of transportation.
“There are also overnight closures on Friday and Sunday night, from 10 pm until 7 am the next morning.”
The other exception to the more-than-two-month closure of Hwy 1 will be on the Thanksgiving long weekend, when the highway will be open from noon on Friday until noon on Tuesday.
When the highway is closed, traffic heading between Golden and the BC-Alberta border will need to detour through Radium using Hwy 95 and Hwy 93.
