BC reports 446 new COVID-19 cases and 9 additional deaths

BC health officials announced 446 new cases of COVID-19 and nine more deaths on Tuesday.

In a written statement, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix said 368 people are in hospital, 72 of whom are in intensive care.

There are currently 5,045 active cases of coronavirus in the province, with public health monitoring 7,238 people who are in self-isolation due to COVID-19 exposure.

A total of 62,294 people have now received a vaccine dose.

“Despite the challenges of COVID-19, there are many safe ways for us to stay active and stay connected. This is important for our physical and mental well-being," said Dr. Bonnie Henry.

“Things are different than what they were before the pandemic. But we have learned, we have adapted, and by following the orders and rules for a bit longer, we will soon get to the brighter days ahead.”

Earlier on Tuesday, officials announced that the border between Canada and the United States will remain closed into February.

The border has been closed to all non-essential travel since March 2020 and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has said that it would remain closed for as long as it needs to be.
