'We need to do better': BC records 131 new COVID-19 cases since Friday

Health officials have reported 131 new cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in BC over the past three days.

Monday's update brings the number of active cases in the province from 386 reported on Friday up to 445.

BC’s death toll from COVID-19 remains at 195, with the province having not recorded a death related to the virus since July 31.

Officials continue to attribute the rise in cases among to young people attending private parties in and around Kelowna and Vancouver.

"We need to do better collectively to stop these exposures from happening," said Dr. Bonnie Henry on Monday.

Henry said public health teams across the province have been breaking up parties, with fines levied against some people.

She said coming together in large groups, often indoors for several hours, is of great concern, and the majority of new cases are among people aged 20 to 39.

There are now more than 1,700 British Columbians in self-isolation due to exposure to COVID-19.
