Like a quarterback after winning the Super Bowl, we’re going to Disneyland!
This week’s beer column features a beer that’s inspired by one of the most popular treats at Disneyland – the Dole Whip.
It’s a limited-release beer put out annually around the PNE Fair by Parkside Brewery, which is part of the Port Moody Ale Trail.
Parkside calls the Tilt-A-Whirl Pineapple Dole Whip Ale one of its “most-anticipated releases each summer.”
“Tilt-A-Whirl begins with bold spins of pineapple on the palate, twirls to showcase its creamy soft-serve body and eventually slows to reveal a lightly-sweet vanilla finish,” the brewery explains.
This beer features a pair of different hop types, with Perle hops doing the majority of the legwork.
According to Parkside, the Perle hops allow the “ample” pineapple puree additions to shine through in this creation.
Azacca dry-hops are added later in the brewing process, which the brewery says “accentuates the citrus twists along the way.”
Tilt-A-Whirl is considered a “strong beer,” coming in at 6% ABV (alcohol by volume), and it pours a gorgeous light-golden colour.
It’s an easy-drinking ale, much like many of my summer features, and it contains lactose to give it the creamier feel that you'd expect from a Dole Whip at Disneyland.
Being that it’s a very limited release from a slightly smaller brewery, it may be tough to track the Tilt-A-Whirl down the further you get away from Port Moody.
If you can find a four-pack at your local liquor store, scoop it up while you have the chance! If not, put this one in the back of your mind and make sure you give it a try next summer.
