Starbucks celebrating 50 years and National Coffee Day with free coffee today

Coffee lovers can get a nice little freebie today, if they so choose.

To celebrate National Coffee Day, Starbucks is offering a free cup of their Pike Place roast to anyone who brings in a reusable cup up to 20 oz.

The offer is also a way for the company to acknowledge its 50th anniversary, celebrating “50 grateful years bringing communities together over coffee.”

The Pike Place roast is named after the coffee chain’s original store in Seattle’s Pike Place Market, which opened back in 1971.

Starbucks introduced the roast in 2008 and it was created using input from nearly 1,000 customers who spent 1,500 hours providing feedback on what’s important to them in a cup of coffee.

“Starbucks master blenders and roasters then artfully created the coffee,” explained a release from the company.

“The result is a smooth, well-rounded blend of Latin American coffees with subtly rich flavors of chocolate and toasted nuts.”

So if you want a free cup of Joe on to get you through hump day, just make sure you bring your reusable mug!
