Curbside recycling collection across the Capital Regional District (CRD) continues to face service delays.
The CRD cited several weeks of inclement weather, higher-than-normal material volumes, staffing challenges and supply chain issues that are impacting equipment maintenance for the delays.
Emterra, the contractor responsible for collecting curbside paper and packaging material on the CRD’s behalf, is making efforts to complete scheduled routes between 7:30 am and 9 pm each day, but a combination of both material volumes at the curb following weather-related cancellations and deferred vehicle repairs have led to additional service disruptions in some areas.
The CRD said that, in order to avoid compounding service delays, collection trucks are unable to recover recyclable materials on alternate collection days.
Blue box materials that have not been picked up from the curb by 9 pm on your scheduled collection day should be brought inside until your next collection day.
Residents are also encouraged to return their paper, cardboard and mixed containers to a recycling depot for free if possible to help ease collection volumes over the next few weeks.
