A serious collision on Sooke Road last night claimed the life of an 18-year-old driver, police confirmed.
West Shore RCMP and the BC Coroner Service are investigating after a collision between two vehicles resulted in the death.
At about 6pm, officers responded to Sooke Road near Humpback Road in Langford after getting a report of a collision between a Honda Civic and a Ford Escape.
Initial evidence gathered at the scene indicated that the Honda Civic was travelling westbound on Sooke Road when it lost control, veering into the oncoming lane of the Ford Escape that was travelling eastbound.
Bystanders attempted first aid at the scene, however the male driver did not survive.
“The weather conditions were very challenging for motorists throughout the region at that time,” says Cst. Alex Bérubé, spokesperson for the West Shore RCMP. “Unfortunately, those weather conditions inevitably contributed to this collision. This is a grim reminder to motorists to adjust their driving behaviours when the weather changes.”
