Phone tracking app helps residents find suspect after break-in and theft in Kamloops

A Kamloops man has been arrested following a string of crimes that led him to Logan Lake.

According to police, at 6:27 am on Monday, officers were notified of a break and enter at a River City hotel. The suspect allegedly stole car keys and a cell phone before taking the victim's car from the parking lot.

Rather than feeling sorry for themselves, the owners of the vehicle used their cell phone to track down the vehicle to Hwy 5 in the Logan Lake area. A local tow company located the stolen vehicle involved in a minor motor vehicle collision, and the suspect needed a tow to get it back on the road.

Police attended the area to find the suspect who was arrested. The stolen items and vehicles were recovered at this time.

The suspect, who was identified as 50-year-old Mark Clute, had outstanding warrants for his arrests. He has now been charged with break and enter, theft of motor vehicle, and failure to comply with a probation order.

Clute has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 9.
