Agassiz Road supportive housing project gets final green light

The controversial Aggasiz Road supportive housing project received the final stamp of approval from city council on Monday.

Council approved a development permit for the four-storey, 52-unit building designed to provide homes and social services for homeless and at-risk Kelowna residents.

With the contentious rezoning process having already taken place, the building’s overall design and landscaping received praise from councilors.

“Technically I opposed the zoning, but that ship has sailed and I lost that fight,” said councillor Charlie Hodge.

“However, I don't oppose the building’s design, it has some good green space and looks quite good.”

Hodge finished his statement by commenting that Kelowna is now in the midst of a “drug war” which it is currently losing.

Councillor Brad Sieben used his comments to reiterate that the project fit from a rezoning perspective but the onus is now on BC Housing to make sure it fits in the community.
