Kelowna paddle boarders gear up for spring programs amid eased pandemic restrictions

Kelowna paddle boarders are preparing to get back out on the water for spring programming as restrictions have eased in the province.

Paddlers have been seen on the water daily since the health authorities eased restrictions.

The Kelowna Paddle Centre’s (KPC) seasonal programs start on May 30, which include Stand Up Paddling Ladies Night, 50+ classes and more.

“All while maintaining a safe distance,” said the centre in a statement. “It really is the original physical distanced sport.”

KPC says that they’ve “stepped up to the challenges” COVID-19 has presented and created procedures and protocols that ensure equipment and the facility are disinfected regularly, as well as setting out guidelines and scheduling to keep on-site numbers within the framework outlined by the province.

The centre added that Paddling Summer Camps are always in high demand and this year is shaping up to be just as busy with 25% of spots sold out in the first week of booking.

“Camp sizes and programs have been modified to meet the requirements set out by the city and province. With a huge lake and qualified instructors, it looks like this summer will be packed with fun down at the Kelowna Paddle Centre,” said KPC Manager Tamlyn Bohm.

The KPC has also extended their early bird pricing to the community. The centre is offering a 15% discount to everyone who signs up for a membership before July 1.

“Our community has really felt the effects of this shutdown and we wanted to extend a bit of a break to them,” said Bohm.
