On June 1, 2020, you’ll be able to see the Sails and the Kelowna General Hospital (KGH) in a new light.
The month of June 2020 has been proclaimed by the Province as ALS Awareness Month in BC.
On June 1 and 2, BC landmark buildings will light up in the ALS colour purple to show support for people living with ALS.
On Monday, the Spirit of Sail monument and the skywalk and main lobby of the KGH will be lit in purple light, along with the Parliament Buildings in Victoria, Science World and the Harbour Centre in Vancouver and more monuments in BC.
“Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a fatal and rapidly progressive neuromuscular disease, which robs a person of their ability to speak, walk, eat or breathe – trapping an active mind in a deteriorating, immobilized body,” explained the ALS Society of BC.
“There is no known cause or cure for ALS, yet. At any given time, over 400 British Columbians are living with ALS; over 3,000 in Canada.”
