Trans March 2019 strides through downtown Kelowna

Mother Nature hit pause on an otherwise rainy Thursday just in time for the 2019 Trans March through downtown Kelowna.

The annual event once again drew a large crowd surrounding the Sails on Bernard Avenue, where dozens on flags, signs and smiles could be seen.

Celebrating the event's fifth year, the large group showed its support of inclusivity and solidarity as they marched from the Sails to the Laurel Packing House.

As the march began down the boardwalk, chants of “When I say Trans is, you say beautiful!” and “Trans rights are Human rights!” echoed from the crowd.

"Kelowna has a history of not always being the most open-minded and lately people are being proven wrong by all the people here who want to learn, improve and better themselves," said an attendee who preferred to remain anonymous.

"It's marching like this, with so many supportive people, that shows how Kelowna is growing and becoming a supportive place for everyone."
