The Grizz are coming off a pair of wins over mid-Island rivals Cowichan Valley last weekend and will look to carry their momentum into two big games this weekend.

Victoria goaltender Oliver Auyeung-Ashton was a key factor in both of those wins over the Capitals, allowing just one goal on 59 shots across two contests while earning his third shutout of the season. The Coquitlam, BC product was also recently named one of four goaltenders that will take part in January’s BCHL 3-on-3 All-Star Tournament in Penticton following a league-wide fan vote.

He has posted a 7-6-0-0 record with a 2.07 goals against average (GAA) and a 0.937 save percentage in 16 games this season.

The Grizz will need Auyeung-Ashton to remain in top form as they open the weekend against a tough Alberni squad that sits only one spot behind Victoria in the conference standings with a 9-10-1-1 record.

The Bulldogs are led on offence by Port McNeil, BC native Ethan Bono, who has tallied a team-high 20 points on an even 10 goals and 10 assists across 20 contests in 2022.

Rookie forward Raoul Boilard is another one to watch for Albeni Valley, having recorded 13 points on five goals and eight assists on the year and counting the shootout-winner in the only other meeting between the Bulldogs and Grizzlies this season.

Salmon Arm presents another tough opponent for Victoria this weekend. They currently hold on to the fifth spot in the crowded Interior Conference standings with a 12-8-1-0 record on the year.

Victoria native Owen Beckner has been the most dangerous Silverback in terms of offensive output this season, recording a team-leading 20 points on eight goals and 12 assists in 22 games this year. He will look to maintain that pace as he makes his return to his hometown Saturday night.

The Grizzlies’ game against the Bulldogs is set to begin at 7:00 pm at the Alberni Valley Multiplex in Port Alberni, BC on Friday, Dec. 2.

Meanwhile, Victoria’s matchup against Salmon arm is set to begin at the same time on Saturday, Dec. 3 at the Q Centre in Colwood.
