Phillips Backyard Music Fest features a stellar lineup this weekend

The best backyard party is back after three years, and this Saturday and Sunday will mark a triumphant return to indie rock, craft beer, and Victoria’s community of cool.

Phillips Brewing is holding three weekend concert series this summer. The first took place back in May with bands like Future Islands and The Zolas, and was an action-packed gathering of grateful music lovers, finally free from the pandemic’s silence.

Phillips Backyard Festival co-producer, Morgan Brooker, says the return to form was a thing of beauty.

“It was so amazing,” Brooker tells VictoriaNow. “It was the first big festival back in Victoria and it was incredible to see all the fans and all the live music come together.”

Brooker and his partner Stephen Franke have curated a fabulous festival this weekend for Tilt (named after Phillip’s lager), that has a wide range of acts.

Headlining Saturday is Montreal smart-indie outfit, Half Moon Run. The group (shhhh…one of Brooker’s favourite bands) has opened for biggies like Mumford & Sons and Metric, and have an iron-clad loyal following.

Sunday night’s lineup concludes with favourite all-female rockers, The Beaches. The Toronto band, known for their high-energy rock-outs, have opened for a little band called The Rolling Stones and have won multiple Juno Awards.

“I’m very excited about the calibre of music we have,” says Brooker. “A lot of the bands will be people’s first time seeing them, and they’ll be blown away.”

Other bands booked for this weekend's festival include Current Swell, Snotty Nose Rez Kids, Old Soul Rebel, and Born Reckless.

Food trucks, water stations, and of course, cold Phillips beverages will all add to the summer experience we’ve all been craving.

The third weekend concert series takes place mid-August and features another exciting collection of artists like Andy Shauf, St. Paul and the Broken Bones, Charlotte Day Wilson, and Nicky MacKenzie.

“Honestly, it’s just good times, great beer, wonderful people, and amazing vibes,” says Brooker.

Phillips Backyard Tilt Festival runs July 9-10, and tickets can be found here.
