Man arrested and charged in shooting at Nanaimo homeless camp

A man has been arrested in connection to a shooting that sent a 49-year-old man to hospital with serious injuries earlier this month.

It was reported that the March 12 shooting took place after a Nanaimo business owner allegedly went to a homeless encampment to retrieve stolen property.

Mounties announced this morning that 37-year-old Craig Truckle of Nanaimo, who is of no fixed address, has been arrested in connection with the shooting.

At about 11 pm on March 22, 2023, Truckle was arrested without incident in downtown Nanaimo. The following day, one count of pointing a firearm without lawful excuse under the Criminal Code was sworn against Truckle.

Truckle’s next court appearance is set for March 28, 2023 in Nanaimo Provincial Court.

The RCMP say a publication ban has been put in place on this incident, and no further information can be released.
