Conditions 'remain stable' for Okanagan community threatened by flooding

Residents in the town of Spallumcheen can breathe a slight sigh of relief when it comes to localized flooding in the community.

According to the township, conditions "remain stable" and Stepney Road is still open to local traffic.

At 11:45 am on Wednesday, the town added a level 1 Emergency Operations Centre due to the floods. With more rain expected to hit the community through the week, officials will be constantly monitoring water levels.

For those who don't know, a sandbagging is set up at the public works shop located 1511 Eagle Rock Road. A second station has also been made at the intersection of Stepney Cross Road and Stepney Road.

Water levels in Fortune Creek and Sneesby Creek have begun to recede.

More to come.
