UPDATE: The owner of a drone found floating in Okanagan Lake has been located

(UPDATE: Jan. 27 @ 3:30 pm) - The power of social media was on full display today.

At 10:40 am, we published a story about a drone found floating in Okanagan Lake near the Kelowna Yacht Club and how the person who discovered it was hoping to return it to its rightful owner.

A short time later, KelownaNow received an email from Adam Lisberg at DJI Technology Inc. in New York, who said that his company makes most of the world's drones.

"If the drone is made by DJI, and the serial number is still legible, I can try to help track down the owner," he said.

We connected Lisberg with Sean Stewart, who found the drone, and in nearly no time at all, Lisberg was able to identify the owner and reach out via email.

Stewart and the owner, who lives in Calgary, are now in contact and the drone will soon be returned.

(Original story: Jan. 27 @ 10:40 am) - A local man is hoping the power of social media can help get a lost drone back into the hands of its rightful owners.

Sean Stewart told KelownaNow that he was working on Okanagan Lake on Wednesday, Jan. 26, when he found a drone resting on a log floating near the Kelowna Yacht Club.

Unfortunately, Stewart believes the drone is likely damaged beyond repair since it has been wet and rusting for months.

However, he was still able to access the SD card and he figures that the owner would love to see the footage as well, even if the drone is not fixable.

“It has a lot of videos and amazing pictures of what looks like a fantastic family vacation and I'd love to get the SD card and drone back to its rightful owner,” he said.

According to Stewart, the last video filmed on the drone was taken on Aug. 8, 2021.
