VIDEO: Canadian silver medallist returns home to airport proposal

Jennifer Abel has many years of happiness ahead of her, but it might be tough to top this past week and a bit.

On July 25, Abel and partner Mélissa Citrini-Beaulieu won a silver medal for Canada in the women’s synchronized three-metre springboard competition.

After an eventful and successful week, the Laval native left Tokyo to return to Canada on Monday, finally arriving at Trudeau Airport in Montreal on Tuesday.

That’s where she was greeted by David Lemieux, a Canadian professional boxer, who also happens to be Abel’s boyfriend.

Actually, I suppose we should call him her fiancé.

Upon Abel’s arrival, Lemieux dropped down to one knee and popped the all-important question.

It was clearly an easy yes for the Olympic silver medallist, who buried her face in her hands and gave Lemieux, along with his daughter Lilyanna, an emotional embrace.

The newly-engaged couple then shared a kiss as other family and friends who were there to meet Abel applauded and cheered.

Abel shared a video of the proposal to her Instagram page and wrote: “I said YES to my soulmate.”

The couple have been dating for around five years and certainly share a busy family life together already, since Lemiuex is the father of two children, Lilyanna and Léon.
