The South Okanagan is once again being issued an air quality advisory due to local wildfire smoke.
Environment Canada says Penticton, Summerland, Naramata, Keremeos, Oliver and Osoyoos will be impacted by the smoke for the next 24 to 48 hours.
According to an afternoon update from the BC Wildfire Service, planned ignitions have been ongoing since Sunday.
Those planned burns are expected to continue into Tuesday and will cause a visible increase in smoke across the Okanagan-Similkameen region.
“During a wildfire, smoke conditions can change quickly over short distances and can vary considerably hour-by-hour,” explains Environment Canada.
“Wildfire smoke is a natural part of our environment but it is important to be mindful that exposure to smoke may affect your health.”
People with pre-existing health conditions, respiratory infections, older adults, pregnant women and infants, children and people who are sensitive to smoke should take extra precautions over the next few days.
