Canada has to deal with snow storms, but in Egypt the problem is sandstorms.
Today, a massive sandstorm hit the Egyptian capital of Cairo and it turned the city a hue of orange.
“The view from the Embassy,” tweeted Jess Dutton, Canada’s ambassador in Egypt, who shared a photo of the storm. “While I am sure it is snowing somewhere in (Canada), it’s raining sand in Cairo!”
As most could guess, the meteorological phenomenon is caused by strong winds blowing loose dry sand and dirt.
The term sandstorm is more commonly used when finer particles, like sand, are blown closer to the surface, whereas dust storms are often used to describe these types of storms that travel longer distances.
Either way, it’s not something you want to be out and about during, and you especially don’t want to be exposing your eyes to it.
Exposing a camera to it, on the other hand, seems like a great idea because it produced some fantastic photos of an orange Cairo today.
