BC man rescues cat left to die in locked crate at a landfill

A man doing a routine trip to the landfill came across an alarming discovery in Prince George.

While dumping his garbage, the man heard meowing coming from a large pile of trash.

The noise was coming from a cat who had been locked inside a carrier and left to die.

“It is appalling that someone would throw a beautiful and loving animal out like a piece of garbage,” said Alex Schare, the shelter’s manager.

“The crate was filled with frozen urine and the poor cat was very cold, skinny and infested with fleas. There is no doubt she would have died if she had been left there much longer, trapped inside the cage.”

Luckily, the good samaritan quickly rushed the 3-year-old cat to the North Cariboo Branch of the BC SPCA.

SPCA staff have named the cat Gloria, after Gloria Gaynor, the singer who made the 70’s song “I will survive” a musical anthem.

The shelter is now appealing for donations to help Gloria and other animals like her.
