Mounties have accused a suspect of being on a “whole other level of disgusting” after a 74-year-old woman was assaulted and robbed in her own home.
The attack occurred at about 3 am on Thursday in downtown Prince George.
A man entered the home through a patio door while the woman was sleeping in her bed.
He forced his way into the apartment, police said, and assaulted the woman in the process.
After taking numerous items – including a small amount of cash – he fled the scene within a few minutes.
The woman was taken to hospital by medics and treated for non-life threatening injuries.
"This is an especially despicable crime," Cpl Craig Douglass said.
"To forcible invade the privacy of someone's home is absolutely horrible. To assault [a] 74-year-old resident is a whole other level of disgusting."
Mounties arrested a man, Philip Christoper Wood, shortly after the break-in was reported.
He was found a short distance from the home when officers – including a dog team – rushed to the area.
Wood, 37, will appear in court on Thursday.
Police said the Prince George resident – who also has Terrace and Fort St John connections – was well known to officers.
The charges against him include:
Breaking and entering to commit robbery
Robbery
Assault causing bodily harm
Failure to comply with undertaking
