86 new cases of COVID-19 in BC since Saturday, 48% of the province’s cases have fully recovered

Dr. Bonnie Henry was able to highlight a number of positives in her first COVID-19 update of the week today.

Since the province doesn’t report numbers on Sunday, she provided two days worth of information, which included a very low 16 new cases on Sunday.

The numbers did spike once again over the last 24 hours, as another 70 new cases were reported to bring our provincial total to 970.

Currently 106 people are hospitalized due to COVID-19, with 60 of them being in critical care, but the province also boasts a 48% recovery rate at the moment.

Of those 469 people that have recovered, Henry said more than 70 of them were hospitalized or in critical care, which highlights the importance of getting the right care or getting on a ventilator at the right time.

However, despite the positive news that can be taken out of today’s numbers, Henry clarified that it shows we’re on the right track, but doesn’t mean we’re even close to being in the clear.

“We are not through the storm yet. We have not yet reached the peak,” she explained.

“We have more people everyday who are in our hospitals and ICUs, so we need to continue to do everything we can.”

There were also another two deaths reported over the last 48 hours, which brings the provincial total to 19.
