BC Ferries is anticipating a busy Canada Day long weekend.
With plenty of people planning to travel between the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island, sailing waits are expected for much of the weekend.
“The most popular travel times are generally Thursday and Friday afternoon, as well as Saturday morning, with lots of travellers departing from Tsawwassen and Horseshoe Bay terminals,” says a release from BC Ferries.
“Historically, Canada Day Monday and the following Tuesday morning are popular times for people to return from Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast.”
To avoid being stuck in a line at the ferry, it’s suggested that anyone with concrete travel plans reserve their spot on the boat in advance.
Travelling at off-peak times is also a good way to avoid sailing waits and get a deal as well.
The Sunrise and Sunset Savings promotion features savings on plenty of early morning and late evening sailings if you’re able to work your travel plans around those times.
Otherwise, travellers are encouraged to arrive early, be prepared for sailing waits and keep an eye on the BC Ferries Twitter page for updates this weekend.
