BC farmers’ markets starting the summer season with online stores

We’re just days away from when a lot of the province’s farmers’ markets would be moving outdoors.

Given the current state of the world, that isn’t an option right now, but that doesn’t mean we’ll be without our favourite farmers’ markets this spring.

The BC Association of Farmers’ Markets will help member markets move to an online model, allowing them to continue to provide consumers with locally grown and prepared products.

"It's important to support your community and each other during this time of uncertainty, said Lana Popham, minister of agriculture.

“A virtual shopping trip to a farmers market is an easy way to get the groceries on your list and to Buy BC, while ensuring physical distancing measures are being followed.”

All 145 BCAFM member farmers’ markets are eligible to receive some of the $55,000 in funding provided by the provincial government to transition to an online platform.

This will enable them to continue selling their food products and more to customers in their communities.

You’ll be able to find out what markets are closest to you and keep tabs on their transition online by visiting the BC Farmers’ Market Trail website.
