BC nurse suspended for 5 days after telling students to 'conceal error' made with patient

A British Columbia nurse has been reprimanded and suspended after telling students to “conceal a known error made during the provision of care.”

Chrysta Deaton, a licensed practical nurse from Prince George, was also censured for failing to consult a care plan prior to providing care, failing to document correctly and failing to report an error that “prevented the resident's timely access to treatment and continuity of care.”

Deaton signed a consent agreement with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives on March 22. The incidents occurred in December 2022.

It explains that the nurse accepts a public reprimand and the suspension of her nursing registration for five days.

She must also be indirectly supervised at work for three months, undertake “remedial education” in accountability and ethics and accept certain prohibitions on her responsibilities on the job.

The BCCNM said it is “satisfied” the agreement will “protect the public.”
