One man is in custody and facing weapons and assault charges after allegedly stabbing a security guard in Vancouver over the weekend.
Multiple 911 calls came in about the incident around 10 am Sunday morning.
According to the Vancouver Police Department, a security guard at a drug store near Thurlow and Davie Street was “stabbed multiple times” while trying to detain a shoplifter.
Officers quickly arrived on scene and performed first aid until paramedics arrived and transported the victim to hospital.
“The victim has serious injuries, but we hope he will make a full recovery,” said Sgt. Steve Addison.
The suspect fled the scene, but investigators worked quickly to identify him and trace him to a building in the downtown eastside.
“Dozens of VPD officers worked throughout the day to identify and locate the suspect, and thankfully he was arrested without incident (Sunday) night,” added Addison.
He was brought into custody around 7 pm as he was leaving the building.
