BC woman suffers life-altering injuries after being dragged under car for 5-7 blocks

A fun night with friends turned into devastating, life-altering injuries for Desiree Evancio this past weekend.

Around 12:30 am on Saturday, the 24-year-old was walking near the intersection of East Hastings Street and Jackson Avenue in Vancouver.

That’s where she was hit by a vehicle, believed to be driven by an intoxicated driver, and dragged for five to seven blocks.

By the time the driver noticed Evancio trapped under their car, she had suffered life-threatening injuries and had to be rushed to Vancouver General Hospital.

“Fortunately, Desiree has shown signs of consciousness, but is still in extremely critical condition and has already (undergone) multiple surgeries,” reads a GoFundMe created by Evancio’s friend Amber Jackman and sister Ashley Danh.

“It is currently undetermined what lies ahead for her, what her recovery will be, and whether or not she will have life-long ailments because of this.”

Jackman and Danh expect that Evancio’s stay at VGH will be a lengthy one as she battles back from these life-altering injuries.

They’ve started the GoFundMe to raise funds to help cover her living expenses, future medical bills and legal fees.

“It is unknown how long her recovery will be and when she will be able to work again, but she certainly has a long road ahead of her,” the GoFundMe reads.

Evancio, who’s originally from Ottawa, is described as an adventurous, full-of-life and free-spirited young woman who’s always up for a good time and a laugh.

“Sadly, she is yet another example of bad things happening to good people.
