BC woman wins $10.9M after last-minute decision to buy lottery ticket at grocery store

Trang Dang made a life-changing decision when she was shopping for groceries at Safeway in late May.

The Burnaby resident was waiting for a friend who was running late for their dinner plans, so she decided to get the errand out of the way.

As she checked out, she made the last-minute decision to purchase a lottery ticket for the May 28 Lotto 6/49 draw.

It was a decision that made her a multi-millionaire, as Dang won the $10.9-million grand prize.

“I was at home when I found out I won,” she explained. “I checked the draw results and questioned if these were the right numbers. I couldn’t sleep that night!”

The first person she shared the monumental news with was her mom.

“My mom was very excited,” noted Dang. “She plays the lottery even more than me!”

Now that money is no longer a concern, Dang plans on searching for a more comfortable home and also has travel at the top of her mind.

She hopes to jet off to Europe to visit Italy, France and Spain.

As for how it feels to win a lottery jackpot?

“It’s life changing and has made things so much easier.”
