B.C. man in critical condition after being hit by unmarked police car

An unmarked police car was involved in a motor vehicle incident in Squamish on Tuesday night.

At around 10:30 p.m., an officer with the Lower Mainland Integrated Police Dog Services was travelling in a grey unmarked SUV that was involved in a collision with a pedestrian.

It happened at the intersection of Hwy 99 (Sea-to-Sky Highway) and Garibaldi Way.

The officer, who was working but not responding to a call at the time, notified dispatch of the incident and began to provide medical assistance.

Emergency crews immediately transported the man, who’s in his late 20s, to hospital in where he remains in critical conditions.

Traffic was redirected for a few hours as the Integrated Collision and Reconstruction Service investigated the scene, but the highway is no longer impacted.

The Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia has been contacted and is investigating the incident.

No other information will be released by the RCMP at this time.
