Body of man who went missing after night out in Vancouver found in False Creek

The 11-day search for Suleiman Khawar has come to a tragic end.

The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) has confirmed that the 23-year-old’s body was recovered from False Creek on Monday.

A boater spotted the missing man’s body near Granville Island around 8:30 am, the VPD said.

Khawar was last seen in the early hours of Sunday, May 25, during a night out in downtown Vancouver.

He was at Mansion Night Club, near West Georgia and Thurlow Streets, and told his family around midnight that he was on his way home, but he never made it.

Although the VPD reported his last sighting at Mansion, his brother told local media during the search that Khawar was spotted near Granville and Drake Streets around 1:30 am.

Khawar is the second South Asian man who has been found dead in similar circumstances this spring, as Irshaad Ikbal’s body was pulled from False Creek a week before Khawar went missing.

The 36-year-old Langley resident got separated from his friends inside Harbour Event Centre at the Plaza of Nations around 2 am on April 29.

Earlier this week, VPD Sgt. Steve Addison said there is no evidence to indicate the two similar incidents are connected, but they both remain under investigation.
