An investigation has been launched after two packages were seized at a BC prison this past weekend.
Contraband and other unauthorized items were seized on April 12 and 13 on the perimeter of the Mountain Institution, which is a medium-security federal prison in the Lower Mainland.
Correctional Service Canada (CSC) said the estimated value of the items was $124,500.
Staff confiscated cannabis concentrate, marijuana buds, crystal methamphetamine, tobacco, cigars, SIM cards, USB charging blocks, and cell phones.
The RCMP were notified and prison staff are still investigating.
According to CSC, a number of tools are used to prevent drugs from entering prisons, including ion scanners and drug-detector dogs.
“CSC is heightening measures to prevent contraband from entering its institutions in order to help ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone,” a news release said.
“CSC also works in partnership with the police to take action against those who attempt to introduce contraband into correctional institutions.”
This is the second significant seizure at this prison.
A week-long lockdown at the end of March led to the seizure of cell phones, phone charges and methamphetamines.
