IIO BC investigating after man shot by RCMP after allegedly injuring a woman

The Independent Investigation Office of British Columbia (IIO BC) is investigating an incident in Chilliwack in which a man was shot by police.

According to the RCMP, officers were called around 7 am today after a man had allegedly threatened and injured a woman at a Chilliwack home.

She was able to escape, but the man left the property as well and “continued to send concerning messages and threats,” an RCMP statement said.

The RCMP began their search for the suspect, which forced a nearby school to initiate hold and secure protocols.

He was located sitting inside a vehicle in a parking lot around 8:30 am.

Backup was called and officers eventually boxed in the man’s vehicle and approached him around 30 minutes later.

“Police advise that the suspect reportedly had a weapon and during the course of the interaction the man was shot,” the statement explained.

The suspect was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Since the IIO BC is now investigating the incident, no further information will be released at this time.

The Chilliwack RCMP continue to investigate the initial complaint as well.
