IIO investigating after police kill man in BC

A domestic incident in Maple Ridge on Sunday ended with one man being killed at the hands of police.

RCMP officers responded to the 12400 block of Colemore Street around 1:10 pm and found three individuals inside the home.

One of them had a knife, which led police to deploy a “conducted energy weapon” to try and subdue the man.

When that failed, another officer fired their gun at the man.

Parademics were on scene and provided immediate medical assistance, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

No one else was injured.

The Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia is now investigating the incident to determine whether police actions or inactions are linked to the man’s death.

As a result, no further information will be released by the RCMP.
