In BC, 90% of people in ICU due to COVID-19 were not fully vaccinated

British Columbia is reporting 605 new cases of COVID-19, this brings the total number of active cases in the province to 5,172.

From the new/active cases this is where they are being reported in each region:

  • Fraser Health: 245 new cases (2,214 active)

  • Interior Health: 119 new cases (850 active)

  • Island Health: 92 new cases (640 active)

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 82 new cases (721 active)

  • Northern Health: 67 new cases (689 active)

  • No new cases of people who reside outside of Canada (58 active)


There are currently 374 people in hospital with 153 of those individuals in intensive care.

In the past 24 hours, four new deaths have been reported bringing the provincial pandemic death toll to 2,033.

Of the new deaths, three were reported in Northern Health and one in Island Health.


There has been one new health care facility COVID-19 outbreak in Island Health, which brings the total number of active outbreaks to 19.

  • Fraser Health: Willingdon Care Centre, Westminster House, Magnolia Gardens, Manoah Manor, Good Samaritan Delta View Care Centre, Cherington Place, West Shore Laylum, Mission Memorial Hospital, Sunset Manor, Evergreen Manor

  • Interior Health: Cottonwoods Care Centre, Joseph Creek Care Village, Overlander, Village by the Station, Haven Hill Retirement Centre

  • Northern Health: Wrinch Memorial Hospital, University Hospital of Northern BC

  • Island Health: Tofino General Hospital

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: Cooper Place

In the past week (Oct. 5-11) this is how cases broke down from unvaccinated to vaccinated:

  • Not vaccinated: 2,571 (61.1%)

  • Partially vaccinated: 291 (6.9%)

  • Fully vaccinated: 1,344 (32.0%)

In the past week (Oct. 5-11) this is how cases per 100,000 population after adjusting for age were broken down from unvaccinated to vaccinated:

  • Not vaccinated: 278.3

  • Partially vaccinated: 80.5

  • Fully vaccinated: 32.1

Over the past two weeks (Sept. 28-Oct, 11) this is how cases hospitalized broke down from unvaccinated to vaccinated:

  • Not vaccinated: 229 (66.2%)

  • Partially vaccinated: 25 (7.2%)

  • Fully vaccinated: 92 (26.6%)

Over the past two weeks (Sept. 28-Oct. 11) this is how cases hospitalized per 100,000 after adjusting for age were broken down from unvaccinated to vaccinated:

  • Not vaccinated: 36.7

  • Partially vaccinated: 10.7

  • Fully vaccinated: 2.1


Since December, the province has administered 7,991,932 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Of the eligible people 12 and older in BC, 88.9% (4,120,063) have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 82.7% (3,835,508) have received their second dose.

From the eligible adults in BC, 89.4% (3,864,764) have received their first dose and 83.4% (3,609,210) received their second dose.
