Lonely Planet names BC beach one of the world’s best

If you’ve taken a trip to Tofino, there’s a good chance you’ve walked in the sand on Chesterman Beach.

Now, you can safely tell people that you’ve been to one of the best beaches in the world.

The Vancouver Island gem was recently named one of the world’s best beaches by Lonely Planet, the iconic travel guide publication.

“From misty mornings where the fog comes off the soft sand to the fiery skies in the evening as the sun dips below the cedar trees, you could spend all day here,” the Lonely Planet description reads.

“The beach is also great for kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding and observing the hundreds of colorful starfish, anemones, urchins and other sea creatures that appear in tide pools.”

It’s not just little sea creatures you can see in tide pools either, as Lonely Planet calls Chesterman Beach a great spot to whale watch.

During the calm summer months, you’ll find surfers of all levels trying their luck in the waves, while the winter months’ serious swells typically only draw experienced and daring surfers.

“Make sure you bring your wetsuit,” the Lonely Planet piece adds. “Water temperatures don’t get much higher than 13.8°C.”

Chesterman Beach is in great company in Lonely Planet’s top 20, as it’s joined on the list by stunning waterfront spots in Australia, Brazil, Thailand, Greece, Mexico and Spain.
