Man attempting cross-Canada bike ride arrested in BC over weapons and illegal drugs

A man’s cross-Canada bike trip has been ended prematurely after B.C. Mounties pulled him over for riding on a freeway – only to arrest him for weapons and illegal drugs.

Port Mann Traffic Services stopped the cyclist at about 6.30 p.m. on June 4 because he was riding in the travel lanes of Hwy 1 on Port Mann Bridge.

He told officers he was leaving the province, but they quickly recognized him.

There was an outstanding warrant out for the would-be adventurer, who is “well known to police”.

“This incident also serves as a reminder that it is illegal to ride a bicycle on a freeway (or highway where prohibited by signage) and how this seemingly minor offence evolved into a significant arrest,” the RCMP explained.
