UPDATE: A man involved in an avalanche near Golden died in hospital

(UPDATE: Friday, Feb. 16, 2018 @10:15 a.m) - The man involved in the avalanche has died in hospital.

The Golden-Field RCMP have confirmed that the 36-year-old man involved with the avalanche on Feb. 9 near Golden has died in a Calgary hospital.

Police are continuing to assist the BC Coroner's Service with their investigation.

(Original: Feb. 10, 2018, @10 a.m.) - A man has been seriously injured due to an avalanche.

One person has been seriously injured in an avalanche near Golden on Friday.

At about 4 p.m., the Golden-Field RCMP were notified that an avalanche had been triggered near Hospital Creek.

One individual was transported by Air Ambulance to Calgary for medical treatment.

The RCMP is advising all backcountry enthusiasts: "be it mechanized or non-mechanized users...to be aware of avalanche and weather condition for their area and to ensure they check current avalanche conditions at avalanche.ca prior to participating in these outdoor activities."
