Body of Maddy Scott found around 12 years to the day after her disappearance

(UPDATE: May 29 @ 11:35 am) - The timing is almost inconceivable.

Around 12 years to the day after she disappeared, and hours after police renewed their appeal for information regarding her disappearance, the body of Madison (Maddy) Scott has been found.

Police are currently executing a search warrant at a rural property on the east side of Vanderhoof. The area has been secured and the RCMP says additional resources will be at the scene "for as long as may be required."

"We can confirm that the property is associated to the discovery of Maddy who has been positively identified by the BC Coroner's Service," an RCMP statement explained.

The Scott family has been advised of this significant development and they have requested privacy at this time.

"This has been a priority investigation for the RCMP over the past 12 years," noted Cpl. Madonna Saunderson. "The discovery of Maddy is a significant development, however, this investigation remains an active and ongoing missing persons investigation where foul play has not been ruled out."

No charges have been laid and anyone with information regarding Scott's case is urged to contact the tip line at 778-290-5291 or 1-877-543-4822.

To mark the solemn anniversary of her disappearance, the RCMP has renewed its appeal for information on the missing woman.

“Madison’s family have missed out on watching her become a wife, mother and aunt,” noted an RCMP release. “Madison and her family deserve justice and closure.”

Scott has been described by her family as a vibrant, free-spirited, loyal and kind individual, who immersed herself in family and friends, hockey, softball and photography.

“This year, Madison would be 32-year-old,” the RCMP release added. “She would likely be immersed in her career and may even have gotten married and had children.”

Foul play is suspected in Scott’s disappearance and her family continues to offer a $100,000 reward for any information that leads to the arrest or charges against whoever is responsible.

Anyone with information about the Scott case is urged to contact the Vanderhoof RCMP at 250-567-2222. You can also submit tips anonymously by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
